I am having a LOT of trouble getting a slide show to load, so I just did a few random pictures of our vacation on the 2 previous posts. I am trying a different site for slideshows.
Tony & I went up after work on Friday, June 24th--we often stop at a BLM campgound part way to the Tetons so we can get to the campground early in the day. We made it to Gros Ventre campgound by about 10 am on Saturday, and snagged a great spot--trees, easy in and out, and close to the restroom. The next day, we took the site next to us for the tent. (We have the Golden Age/Senior Pass which gets us half price campsites). Sunday, we headed into Yellowstone to scope out Louis Lake campground--where we've always wanted to tent camp. It was still under about 5 feet of snow (found out it just opened yesterday). We drove around, then back to Jackson Lake Lodge for church--we usually go there every time we are up there--it's a branch and lots of fun to see people in shorts and t-shirts attending. (The next week Branch passed the sacrament in his jeans and t-shirt!)
Sunday night Liz, E and Kayla got there. We had several days of hiking, playing in the water of Jenny Lake, riding the boat across the lake, and exploring the lower loop of Yellowstone.
Em, Branch and the 2 kids got there Thursday. Branch, Liz, Kayla and Tony did a white water raft trip on the Snake River on Friday and had a blast! We had Kronskis around the fire that night with some friends of Liz who came up for the raft trip. In case you don't know, Kronskis are a local favorite--made right here in Rock Springs--they are a Polish garlic sausage, and were SO good. then, of course, the s'mores around the fire. And Liz and Em introduced everyone to roasted marshmallows stuffed with things like junior mints, p-nut butter cups, and other chocolate candies. It's a Girls' Camp thing!
Saturday, we again hit the straight-off-the-glacier water of Jenny Lake. The kids had a great time wading and splashing and eating. We got to just hang out for a lot of the day, and it was wonderful to have kids and grandkids around us.
Sunday, Liz and Kayla and E left for home, so the rest of us went across Jenny Lake and to Hidden Falls--which is a roaring torrent with all the runoff, but still beautiful and so cool with the mist caused by the falls. It was M and the baby's first hike, and they both did great. Then on to church at Jackson Lake Lodge again.
Monday saw us packing up and heading home. The duct tape we used to cover the place where the siding blew off (see a prior post) loosened on the way home, so now we are covering it with a tarp.
Next Wednesday, we are headed out again. Sarah and her kids fly out this Monday, and we're taking them into Yellowstone on Thursday from the west entrance. We'll be camping at Madison campground for 3 nights, as well as in West Yellowstone the first night, and maybe Crystal Hot Springs the last night. The kids are so excited and have checked out library books about the place.
We can't wait to be "on the road again"! Just wish we could get ALL the kids and grandkids around the fire again!

Dang it, are we the only family not sending at least one member to Yellowstone this Summer? Lame! I still can't believe we didn't head to TN over the 4th of July to meet that new baby. Seth told me he thought Sarah was in Utah all of July and so I just bagged the idea. I guess I should have called and checked with Sarah. Oh well, enough of me feeling left out....this trip looks SUPER fun!
Sounds so fun! Hopefully you'll be able to figure out how to post the slide show. I'd love to see your pictures! It's been too many years since we last went that direction. I'm missing it right now.
