Well--just so no one thinks our gardens in Green River don't grow well, here's a picture of our home-grown tomatoes. And, as you can see, our corn "is as high as an elephant's eye". And--a giant sunflower!! Just didn't want Sarah to think she's the only one who can grow a garden. Maybe the green thumb came from me?? The snow in June did wonders for our garden. So did the week-long camping trip with neighbor kids watering for us. The one thing that has really done well, though, has been the lettuce. We took some to the Tetons, we've given away bunches, and we keep eating salads. Liz says that you can almost taste the dirt in home-grown lettuce and she loves it, so she's getting more from us this week when we go to SLC. We're just hoping that our new sprinkler system will produce wonderful results like these next year!
Seriously, we did finally get the sprinkler system in and backfilled. We dug up the front yard for it--the lawn was awful with little sucker trees coming up, and roots from the 80+ year old trees out front, both of which have now been cut down, and cement-like dirt (the water sat on top, wouldn't soak in). So we just tilled everything under and will start again. The cold wet June delayed the progress, then we were gone a lot in July, so it wasn't til August that Tony could actually get most of the work on it done, and now we want to wait until spring to put sod out front. Yesterday was the first Saturday we've had off together that we didn't have other things to do, so we got busy with shovels and rakes and finished it.
We are so excited about getting to see some of you soon. We're heading to Cedar City in October during UEA weekend, and we get to spend several days with Brody and Helen and the kids--hoping to get one last camping trip in before we winterize the trailer. Then, we're heading to Seth's for Thanksgiving. Sarah and her family are driving up, so we get to see both families. And we'll see Liz and her family this week. I keep having grandkid withdrawals!
It is so fun to be able to pull up everyone's blogs and see the pictures and videos, and read what's going on in your lives. And now it looks like even Brody and Helen are joining us too. HOORAY!!
